REED BUNTING
Emberiza schoeniclus
Conservation Status (AMBER)
found in wetlands with reed beds, so my little marsh area at Wild North Devon is the perfect location. Also in farmland and other open areas with bushes and hedges. In the spring and summer, male gives his halting song from a prominent perch, showing off distinctive black-and-white head pattern.

Conservation status
Classified in the UK as Amber under the Birds of Conservation Concern 4: the Red List for Birds (2021). Protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework.
Reed buntings will sometimes visit garden birdtables, in fact the often spend time on my feeders at Wild North Devon. For more information check out my Bird Photograpgy blog for more wildlife in North Devon
